What is Medicare?

Medicare is a national health insurance program designed to support adults aged 65 and older, as well as younger individuals living with specific disabilities. It also provides essential coverage for those diagnosed with end-stage renal disease or ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).

Understanding Medicare Enrollment

Navigating your Medicare benefits doesn't have to be overwhelming. At Kansas Cares and Thrives, LLC, we provide clarity on your eligibility and enrollment timing, ensuring you secure the right coverage for your lifestyle.

The Four Parts of Medicare

Medicare consists of four core components: Part A (Hospital Insurance), Part B (Medical Insurance), Part C (Medicare Advantage), and Part D (Prescription Drug Coverage). While Original Medicare covers essential services, Medicare Advantage plans often integrate additional vision, dental, and hearing benefits.

Managing Your Costs

Most recipients qualify for Part A without a premium. Part B typically requires a standard monthly fee, though state assistance may be available for lower-income households. Part D costs fluctuate based on your plan choice and financial subsidies. We provide personalized estimations to help you budget for out-of-pocket expenses.

Enrollment Windows & Timelines

  • Fall Open Enrollment (AEP): Oct 15 – Dec 7. Switch plans, join or drop Part D, or move between Original Medicare and Advantage.
  • Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment (MAOEP): Jan 1 – Mar 31. Switch Advantage plans or return to Original Medicare.
  • General Enrollment Period (GEP): Jan 1 – Mar 31. For those who missed their initial eligibility window.
  • Special Enrollment Periods (SEPs): Timing varies by event (e.g., moving, losing employer coverage).
